THEA 101 — Introduction to Theatre(3 cr.)

Survey of the collaborative art of theatre, including acting, directing, design, and dramaturgy. Students attend and analyze live productions as part of the course. No prior theatre experience is required.

THEA 110 — Acting I(3 cr.)

Introduction to foundational acting technique, including improvisation, scene study, and character analysis. Students perform scenes and monologues in a supportive studio environment. Emphasis is placed on physical and vocal presence.

THEA 210 — Stagecraft(3 cr.)

Introduction to the technical elements of theatrical production, including scenery construction, lighting, and sound. Students gain hands-on experience working on department productions. Safety practices in the scene shop are emphasized throughout.

THEA 220 — Acting II(3 cr.)

Continued development of acting technique with emphasis on realistic and heightened text. Students work on extended scenes from modern dramatic literature. Individual coaching supports refinement of craft.

THEA 250 — Play Analysis(3 cr.)

Study of dramatic structure, genre, and interpretation across a range of plays and periods. Students develop analytical tools used by directors, actors, and designers alike. Written analyses connect textual interpretation to production concepts.

THEA 310 — Directing I(3 cr.)

Introduction to the principles of stage directing, including script analysis, blocking, and collaboration with actors and designers. Students direct a short scene as a course project. Emphasis is placed on developing a clear directorial vision.

THEA 330 — Costume Design(3 cr.)

Study of the principles of costume design, including period research, rendering, and construction techniques. Students design costumes for a department production. Collaboration with directors and other designers is emphasized.

THEA 360 — Theatre History(3 cr.)

Survey of theatrical practice from ancient Greece to the modern era, examining how theatre reflects and shapes its culture. Students read representative plays alongside historical and critical texts. Attention is given to the evolution of performance conventions.

THEA 495 — Senior Capstone Production(3 cr.)

Culminating production experience in which students take on a significant creative or technical role in a mainstage production. Regular mentorship meetings with faculty support the student's creative process. Serves as the capstone experience for the theatre major.

Prerequisite(s): Senior standing
