DANC 101 — Introduction to Modern Dance(2 cr.)Introduces the fundamental technique and vocabulary of modern dance. Students develop body awareness, alignment, and movement quality through guided practice. No prior dance experience is required. View Fall 2026 sections of this course DANC 105 — Ballet I(2 cr.)Introduces the fundamentals of classical ballet technique, including barre and center work. Students develop alignment, musicality, and basic ballet vocabulary. The course welcomes students at the beginning level. View Fall 2026 sections of this course DANC 150 — Dance Composition I(3 cr.)Introduces the elements of choreographic composition, including phrase development, spatial design, and use of time and dynamics. Students create and present short original studies. Peer feedback develops choreographic vocabulary. Prerequisite(s): DANC 101 View Fall 2026 sections of this course DANC 210 — Ballet II(2 cr.)Continues the study of classical ballet technique at an intermediate level. Students refine turns, jumps, and partnering fundamentals. Increasing attention is given to musicality and performance quality. Prerequisite(s): DANC 105 View Fall 2026 sections of this course DANC 230 — Dance History(3 cr.)Surveys the development of Western theatrical dance from court dance through contemporary practice. Students analyze how social and cultural context has shaped choreographic innovation. Viewing and discussion of recorded performances supplement readings. Students develop performance quality alongside technical skill. The course draws on multiple jazz dance traditions. Prerequisite(s): DANC 101 View Fall 2026 sections of this course DANC 330 — Dance Composition II(3 cr.)Builds on foundational choreographic skills to develop longer, more complex original works. Students collaborate with peers on group choreography and receive structured critique. The course culminates in a showing of finished work. Prerequisite(s): DANC 150 View Fall 2026 sections of this course DANC 495 — Senior Dance Concert(2 cr.)Guides senior dance majors through the choreographic and rehearsal process for a fully produced concert. Students manage the technical and artistic aspects of mounting original work for public performance. The course serves as the capstone for the dance major. Prerequisite(s): DANC 330 |
